"Edward Nigma speaking. Riddle me this: What is it that demands an answer, yet never asks a question? Answer: A telephone, of course. Unfortunately for you, I've no further answer to give, as I'm currently occupied. Leave a message and, if you're lucky, I may do you the honor of returning your call. Ta-ta!"

Oh, I was just looking to get out of the house for a little while. Did you want to come with me?
no subject
[He migrates down the hallway to take his hat off the rack, though he leaves his coat hanging. It's been pretty decent weather as of late. His hand overs over the cane stand by the front door, contemplating which to bring along with him before finally deciding on the cane on the far right. He takes it in hand with a bit of a flourish.]
Shall we be going?
no subject
[He grins a little. Really, he doesn't have a destination in mind. All he knows is that it's nice and warm out, and he wants to get out of the house and relax for a while. And spending the day with Edward would make it even better.
Luke walks over to the door impatiently and rests his hand on the doorknob, waiting for Edward to follow.]
no subject
Perfect day for a walk. Or a drive, if we so desire.
no subject
Should we go driving...? It'd be a nice day for it.

[Now Luke looks very intrigued. This is very much related to his interests...]
So what you're saying is, this year when I turn fourteen, I could get a driver's license? As in, my own car to drive and everything?
no subject
You could. Granted, the rules were much less strict in this era. I couldn't get my license until I turned sixteen, and even then, I didn't have my own car until college. [And it was a total P.O.S. car that he spent all of high school
stealing money forsaving up for.] But here? You'd be King of the Road.[Eddie pauses when they reach the driveway. He's just had a Thought.]
But first, you would need to know how to drive. And in order to learn, you would need a good teacher.
[Hint hint.]
no subject
And to get my license when I turn fourteen, it would help a lot if I had plenty of practice beforehand, right?
no subject
[He's practically dancing around the question now.]
What do you think? Would you be interested in a bit of practice this afternoon?
no subject

[Instead of opening up the garage to start up the Riddler-Mobile, though, Edward continues down the driveway, heading to the street.]

[He's grinning ear-to-ear now.]
Come along. Let's find one for you.
no subject
Wait is he serious right now.
Luke's eyes light up, overjoyed at this idea. Unfortunately, even though he's lived with Edward for quite some time, it still doesn't register how he's about to get said car.]
Y-you mean it?! I'm going to get my very own car?!
no subject
You're gonna get your own car, all right.]
no subject
Luke glances around excitedly waiting for them to come across some kind of car lot...]
no subject
Hello. What's this? It looks like a 1955 Porsche Spyder. It's a very dark shade of blue, and the roof appears to be up. More importantly, its drone driver appears to be fiddling with its door in some frustration, occasionally letting out a "Doggone it!" or "Oh, shucks." Eventually, the driver backs off and heads into the Zemekis building.
Eddie turns to Luke, indicating the Porsche with a quizzical tilt of his head.]
Well, Luke? What do you think of that?
no subject
It's a gorgeous car, he will admit that much.]
I have to say it's very impressive...
[And then he gives Edward a suspicious glance.]
...but it belongs to someone else.
no subject
It is rather impressive, isn't it? [He'll just... pretend he didn't hear that second part, heading towards the car and peeking in through one of the windows.] Ah! Locked himself out. Clumsy. But common. Happens to all of us at some point or another.
Hold this for me, would you? [He lightly tosses his cane to the boy before continuing.]
Lesson #1. [Eddie reaches into one of his pockets and fishes out a small, thin strip of metal.] Always carry one of these. They call this a "slim jim," Luke. And you never know when you might need one. It's a useful tool to have, whether you've locked yourself out...
[He moves to maneuver it into the space between the driver's side window and the rubber seal.]
...or you've seen something else that's more to your liking. Remind me to stop by the hardware store and pick one up for you on the way home.
no subject
[And that's when Luke goes from incredibly enthusiastic to very disapproving. Puzzle!dad this is why you get into trouble and he's pretty sure gentlemen don't break into cars and steal them, even if they do belong to mindless drones.
Still, as much as he isn't thrilled about this idea, he'll still watches what Edward is doing with the strip of metal. Considering he and Slugger got lucky when they just so happened to find a unlocked car while fleeing from the Major and the Doctor, it couldn't hurt to know these things.]
no subject
[At one point, Edward will stop what he's doing and frown at Luke in response.]
Don't look so disappointed. You're learning a practical life skill.
[Because that's what parenting's all about, right? Practical life skills. It doesn't take long before the car door clicks and the door opens. Eddie cautiously slides the slim jim out, setting it down in the passenger seat before leaning into the car and unlocking the passenger side door.]
There we go. You see how I was able to open it, don't you? It takes a bit of practice, but you've always been a fast study.
no subject
Yes, I saw it just fine.
[And he'll move a bit closer to the car to get a better look. It was a really nice car, wasn't it.]
no subject
[He takes his cane back from Luke, sticking it in the backseat before looping around the car and getting into the passenger seat.]
Then let's proceed to Lesson #2. And let's do so quickly.
no subject
Still, he gets in and buckles up. Safety first, after all. He'll give another glance to Edward, expecting him to do the same.]
All right, we're in. Now what do we do?
