Riddle 015: Even More Puzzling...

[First, a public call, filtered from drones/Grady/Mayor/Postman/etc.]

Riddle me this. When you have it, you'll want to share it, but if you share it, you'll no longer have it.

It's a secret, ladies and gentlemen, and it seems as though the Mailman's incapable of keeping one. I know others have said it before, but come now. Surely we're all smart enough not to victimize one another. Many have their reasons for wanting to return home, but I'm sure others have their reasons for wanting to stay here as well. Strange as that may be.

...though that is rather curious. Why would one decide to stay in a place like Mayfield?

[Then, a private call, filtered to Officer Grady.]

This is Edward Nigma. Are you in, Boss?

[Then, an action, for his housemates and whoever else happens to visit. It looks like Edward's been fortunate enough to get back one of his old outfits in the mail, along with his good ol' cane. Believe it or not, it's actually surprisingly comfy and warm. Almost like long-johns. Feel free to walk in on him and comment on his god-awful fashion sense.]

......

Yes you did.

[Okay, who the hell are you.]

Do you remember the time we took over Arkham? We got Jervis to use his cards...and put Batman on trial?...

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
...that's not how it happened. Joker had taken hostages and staged something, yes, but he never put Batman on trial.

From what I'd heard, one of the doctors there had gone insane and thought Batman was some kind of... demon?

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
.....No.

We got Jervis to use his cards on the guards and we kidnapped some lawyer who hated Batman, an' Batman. And then we made her defend batman in our court! You were there! In the jury with me, an Ivy an Crane...and Mr. J was the judge!

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
...Harley, that never happened.

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Trust me. I think I would know.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I knocked Batman out for that plan! I think I'd know!

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
...at any rate, I've never worked for a game company of any kind.

I mean, once I got out of college, I worked with a traveling carnival for a time. But from there, I made my way into the criminal underworld as an informant.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
......

[Backing away. Seriously freaked out now.]

That's not what happened! You used to rant about that boss of yours in Arkham for hours!

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Harley, I never---

[Wait. Waaaaaait.]

...I think I understand.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
....what!

[This had better be good. She's reaching around for a lamp to use as a weapon.]

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
It makes sense.

One of the members in my assigned family is Death itself. His assigned wife? Also Death. One of them is a massive skeleton in the robe. The other is a young woman.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Picking up the lamp now...]

No, that doesn't make any sense at all.

And what does Death have ta do with anything!

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
My point is, they're both Death. But they're the Deaths of alternate universes.

Think about it. Why would we remember events so differently? And how is it that you believe I grew up one way, when I know I've grown up another way? We're not just from a different timeline, Harley. We could very well be from separate universes altogether.

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds ludicrous, I know, but this is Mayfield. It's all about the ludicrous, here.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
I....guess.

[Holding the lamp still.]

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, for Pete's sake, put that down. I'm still me.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't gonna do anything with it.

[Lies. But puts it back]

So we're from different worlds then?

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
It seems that way. And it certainly explains a lot.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
Like you not knowing about the trial?

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Or your confusion when I'd told you that you were attempting to reform, back home.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That did sound a little weird.

[identity profile] puzzlerprince.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Still, you aren't all that different from the Harley I know from home.

[identity profile] crazyclownwoman.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, and you don't seem that different from the Eddie I know....

[Looking at him...]
